Simplicity is Nice, Sometimes

Each year, during tax season, I become exasperated with the complexity of the entire tax filing process. Why does it have to be so complicated? Why can’t there be just one simple form that everyone could fill out? Then I come to the realization that there is! I could, like so many other Americans, simply fill out my contact information and revenue on my 1040 form, sign it, and be done in 10 minutes. Sounds great on a surface level but then I wouldn’t reap the benefits of itemizing. What about reducing my taxes by documenting the interest I paid on my mortgage…? Like so many things in life, I then realize that simple is not best here. So, even though I will be sacrificing my time - in the end, I will gain a lot by adding some supplemental forms to my 1040 form.
